Hereward Homes honoured to win prestigious regional award

Oakham-based developer Hereward Homes has won a major regional award for its recent local development at Homefield Close in Medbourne, Leicestershire.

The 15-home scheme has won the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Award for ‘Best Medium Volume New Housing Development’, securing Hereward Homes a place in the national Grand Final to be held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London in January next year.

Managing Director Jon Gibbison described the win as a particular highlight in a career that has already seen the company, established over 25 years ago, receive numerous industry accolades. Jon says:

We’re incredibly proud to have won a regional award at the LABC Building Excellence Awards for Homefield Close. It’s a great reflection of the care, quality and attention to detail that goes into everything we build, and a real credit to the whole team and everyone involved in the project. It’s fantastic to see the development recognised in this way, and we’re thrilled to now be going forward to the LABC Grand Finals. It’s a very proud moment for Hereward Homes.”

During the design and planning stages, a lot of time was spent ensuring the development would sit comfortably within the village setting. Built on a sloping site, the project faced significant logistical challenges due to adverse weather, yet the finished scheme succeeds in creating visual interest due to its thoughtful mix of house styles and materials which draw from the local vernacular.

Environmental considerations also informed the design from an early stage, including the incorporation of two landscaped ponds, which provide a walking route for residents while also serving as storm water storage. Sustainability features prominently throughout, with homes fitted with air source heat pumps, triple glazing and electric vehicle charging points – all contributing to EPC B energy efficiency and A-rated environmental impact ratings.

The development received the support of the Parish Council from the outset, owing to its range of house types, floor areas and price points. Homes sold quickly to a diverse range of purchasers, including families, older residents and first-time buyers, with four properties delivered through the First Homes Scheme, offering a 30% discount to eligible local purchasers.

For the Hereward Homes team, Homefield Close represents the successful delivery of a development that balances quality, affordability, location, community integration and sustainability, whilst offering valuable opportunities for local first-time buyers to gain a first step on the housing ladder.
